Anyone doing anything good this weekend? Headed out to do some backpacking in PA myself this weekend. Weather looks good everywhere, hope you all get out and don't blow your freakin hands off if you play with fireworks for chris sakes......... :smoke:

I won't be lighting any fireworks off at my place. Around here, that's an open invitation for the local cops to show up. :mad:

gonna be quiet around here this year ..... absolutely NOTHING planned which is kinda of nice...... NO fireworks (my wife hates them because they are loud)

I think this weekend there will be lots of minor home projects and maybe a little beer!

Hope you all have a great 4th! :smilewide

Happy 4th folks! I'll be heading off to Blue Mountain Lake (upstate NY) in the Adirondacks for some major R&R with the wife and kids. My favorite place hands down. I always come back refreshed and much calmer. Nothing but fishing, boating, hiking, reading, hanging with my family and just relaxing. We have a cottage that overlooks the lake and mountains. No cell phones, computers, TV... very liberating! They also put on a spectacular fireworks display a little north in Long Lake (Jim you know exactly where I'm talking about) and the weather is supposed to be great! Coming back in one week so this is the big getaway for the year. Hope you all enjoy the holiday and have fun with family and friends. Be safe and play nice... :hat-man:

Happy 4th everybody!

Nothing big planned. Went and saw the local Ortonville fireworks display. Nothing special, but it's our last 4th in Michigan. 2 more weeks 'til the big move.

Big event for us today is more packing. But we will be having some good old fashioned hot dogs on the grille for dinner.

Was at Fair St. Louis today for the air show. Got to hear a local band "Logos" all real young guys with old-school approach. They were really good.

Went up in the Arch for the first time in who-knows-how-many-years. It was back in the late 70's or early 80's for sure. I took MPH's two boys and they loved it!

I took some pics but haven't checked them yet to see how they turned out. If any are good, I'll post them.

So my girlfriend and I backpacked in the Allegheny National Forest this past holiday weekend........learned a couple things;
1) I used to do this alot, I haven't done much the past 3 years. At 53 my legs don't carry a 45 lb pack like they used to.
2) Need to take off some weight and although my lifestyle is rugged with woodcutting and chopping, nothing beats organized workout regimens to stay young and more capable of stuff like backpacking.
3) First time in this area, absolutely beautiful area to backpack, nice streams and the reservoir is very scenic and rugged. PA has done a nice job of keeping the area "wilderness"
4) We stayed the first night at a campsite area that PA maintains for boat or hike access only....I learned that boaters with huge pontoons boats and large families are not the ones you want to be camping next to, even if you did pick the site on account of the lakefront view and fishing/swimming opportunities. They drink alot of beer, stay up late at night, and don't really have a courteous bone in their bodies.
5) My lab out swam two other labs that were next to us when the kids at their site started throwing sticks in the lake to fetch....he kicked ass, I was proud.... :smoke:
6) Fireworks are legal in PA I think, another reason to stay away from an area like his on the weekend of the 4th. Pontoon boats carry a lot of shit, including lots of stupid firecrackers to get their kids out of their hair for a few hours. I like this area, but not again until fall.

Nice weekend overall....hope you all had fun! Feakin weather is a killer this week!....90's and humid
