Okay,

the drummer in my band needs a "monitor" to hear me better......easiest way right now would be to get an extention cabinet from my amp out to him.

So, why not build one????

I just need a simple 12" speaker in a cab with a jack, on an angel so it's pointed at buddy's head.

well what kind of wood should I use?

And the speaker? Here's my idea. Take the stock speaker out my amp (Fender Hot Rod deluxe) use that in extention cab, buy a kick ass 12" speaker for my amp!

Any thoughts?

Alot of places sell cheap truck speaker cabs for 12" woofers that are unloaded. Cab is done, already wired with connections, and has carpeting. All you do is supply the woofer.

Or go ahead and buy the matching extention cabinet that goes with the HRDX and point that at him or behind him. They when the band is done, or you do anything else, you have a really cool looking mini stack too.

I thought of that Jason but $300 seems a bit expensive for a box with a Fender logo on it.

I havent seen any empty pre-made cab's around here, but I haven't looked for such a thing either. I'll look deeper into that idea.

Heck, if he is the one that can't hear, he should build or come up with a monitor for himself! If you have to do it, at least get something that matches or is usable with another applications. Get a Carvin extension cab, or maybe an Avatar, if you don't want to spend the Fender prices.

HEY! Never thought of Carvin.....

Reason I "want" it is because if I walk, it walks with me. Drummer wont get to keep it, lol

Then you are halfway to a second rig if you get another small amp head... like a Night Train, Tiny Terror, or maybe you'd want to keep it home with that new little Traynor head?

How many drivers are in that thing? If it has a peizo or horn it will probably sound like shit. You just need a 1x12.

Building a good speaker cab is much more involved than slapping a speaker in a wood box. There is a lot of engineering involved with getting the volume of the box right for the particular speaker, whether you port the box or not, etc.
I've done it before, but not likely again. Lots of fairly sophisticated math.

Ah to hell with it then, lol......I'll buy one. But do I need to stick with the Fender extention cab they offer??? Must be more.

I want a 12" speaker, but what ohm should it read? 8?

Hell no, you don't have to get Fender. I just think it would look cool to match. Your amp can't read badges - just how many ohms the speaker has! You'll need a single 8 ohm speaker for your HRDX.

I am in love with my Avatar cab... they ship to Canada:

"Canada ..YES .we now ship there directly. The US shipping cost would be about the same cost (for most of Canada... some far away or remote locations may cost a little more like Nova Scotia, but we'll let you know before we ship) then add $39 for the fedex broker fee. That is the total to us. You'll have to pay the Canadian government whatever taxes are due. Please email your postal code and we'll give you an exact quote."

Like I think I mentioned earlier, if you get an extention cab, then you are one small purchase away from a new rig too - if you ever need it. Just buy a small amp head, and there ya go!
