Well, the wife and I have pretty much made up our mind that we want to get a Baby Taylor for the baby coming. We have a few friends that have them, and always enjoyed the little things. Uh... both the Baby Taylors and babies!

My hope is to get a the baby's name and date of birth laser etched into the Rosette. I read in a few places that the Custom Shop did this, so I called my dealer to get some info on it.

It turns out that as of right now, getting your name or date put on the rosette is FREE! It is just a matter of them typing it into the machine that does the laser etching, and if you order it they'll just do it. However, that is for now, and of course the Taylor rep said he didn't know whether they will charge for it in 4-5 months when I need it. Gotta have the baby first to know what date to put on, ya know?

So anyhow, it looks like that is the route we will go. The only choice now is whether to get the Sitka Spruce top or the Mahogany top? I've played several Sitka tops, but not the Mahogany. I need to find one over the summer and see if I like that darker, warmer tone or not. Personally, I love how it looks.

...changing STRINGS or changing DIAPERS, both are necessary when "...the sounds..." become crappy.

Only a guitarist could come up with a comparison between old strings and dirty diapers!

Just the way our minds work, I guess.........

Just an update:

Right after I called my local Mom and Pop Taylor dealer about doing this to the Baby Taylor, I also called the new Guitar Center we have in Birmingham to see what they might say.

Well, two days later I got my answer left on my machine. According to Guitar Center, their Taylor rep says it can't be done (laser-etching the name and date on the rosette) and the only time things like that are done are for stars and special runs. The G.C. guy said "Average Joes can't get it done... not even from the custom shop."

So I guess when the baby comes I'll find out who is right. I didn't really want to buy it from Guitar Center anyhow! LOL!

Damn... if I was only a STAR!
