4 Great Martins. Which would you buy...and why?
They all start with a 000 body style. All are short scale minus the OM. Different necks profiles and string spacing. From low profile "C"... to vintage... to CLAPTON BASEBALL BAT. From narrow to wide bridge spacing. Not to mention that ...00028VS is a 12 fret slot head. 4 guitars that I truly admire. If one was only able to own one. Which one??? Yes, this is my delema.
Guys and gals...These are your choices....Inspire me to buy your favorite!!!
Thanks in advance!

Taylor Presentation Series. Whoops... that slipped out.
Seriously, let me break out the Elderly catalog. Out of those four, I have only played a 000-28. Elderly has pictures of them pretty much next oto each other, and to me, the 000-28VS grabs my attention. I like the slotted head and lack of pickguard. If I had that guitar, it would be getting fingerstyle play, not strummed with a pick, so why bother having it?
Then again, if I sat down with all four and played, I might come away with a different idea. But going by first impressons from the looks, I say 000-28VS.

Hmm... Probably already know what I'm going to say
They are all fantastic guitars, it's most likely going to come down to your neck/scale preference.
The 000-28, 000-28V, and 000-28EC are all 14 Fret Acoustics, which personally I prefer over a 12 Fret 000-28VS. I wouldn't mind having a 12 Fret in the stable, but for much of the Blues I play, I just need the 14 Frets clear. I do love the way the 000-28VS looks and plays though.
I chose the 000-28EC's over the rest, because it was the only one of the bunch that gave me all the feature I wanted in one guitar. The 24.9 Scale, 14 Frets Clear, the Vintage V neck (or Baseball bat as you put it  ) and the
1 3/4" Nut width. For a fingerpicking Blues guy like myself, that really is the best combo. The spacing giving your fingers more room, the short scale making bending notes a little easier, and the V neck which just fits my hand better than any other guitar neck I have ever come across. The newer Clapton 000-28's really do sound much better than previous years. The only ones I've heard that sounded as good, where the 1st year productions. I contribute the tone change because Martin is now using Bone for the nut and saddle, rather than Macarta, and Corian. Actually, my 000-28EC is at my Luthiers as we speak being set up, and having Bone carved for the Nut & Saddle.
You certainly can not lose with any of them. I think the EC sounds a little "darker" than the rest of them, which I love for a Blues tone. They are a little brighter now with the Bone Nut & Saddle, but still sound incredible.
So, I say the 000-28EC. I can speak for what these things sound like with some years on them. Mine is 10 years old now, and man what a tone. I can only imagine what its going to sound like when I get it back tomorrow from my Luthier with the new Nut & Saddle... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Decisions, Decisions! I just thank the lord that I find myself in a position to even consider picking up one of these fine Instruments :smoke:

How do these guitars compare to the 000-42?
There is a picture of the 000-42 in my guitar mag and it looks the dog's b*******. What do you get for the extra money - is it just the fancy finish?

Basically lots of extra "BLING" and better quality woods. I'd die for a 000-42 in vintage sunburst or amberburst. In a recent vintage Martin publication EC was quoted as saying "an OM-42" after being asked if he could be reborn, what would he be born as.

I too dig the sound of the 000-28EC. I still have a bit of a problemo with the neck. Prefer more of the V kneck found on let's say a HD28-LSV. I LOVE the EC neck when it comes to open chords and single notes, but have a time when it comes to doing bar chords on it. I will admit, it is feeling better ever time I pick one up at the local music store.
It is really hard to find any 000/OM body styles in most shops. Other than the EC, 16 series and the occassional 15 series. I did play the John Mayer sig. OM-28 but prefer a a 1 3/4 nut width versus the Mayer's 1 11/16. It did sound great though! Yet to find a plain old 000-28, OM-28V much less the 000-28VS. Looks like I need to make a trip to Hollywierd or to Buffalo Bros. in Carlsbad.
Price wise the OM-28V seems to be a great value and gets alot of rave reviews. Probably the most versitile of the group. This is the one that I am seeking to play next.

Yea can't go wrong with a OM-28V.
Oh... I think Clapton said he would come back as a OM45 though. :Loco:

I'll have to re-check the article on that one!
I did play an OM-42 yesterday. Very nice guitar indeed. Brighter and better seperation than the 000-28EC. And perhaps a bit move volume. The EC's have a warmth that the OM did not. The OM-42 that I played was a newer boned model. I am sure curious to hear how a boned EC sounds! All the one's I have seen have been the older TUSQ/Macarta variety. I'm hoping a boned EC would have a bit more seperation and clarity with out making it overly bright. The EC is really a killer blues box! Even w/plastic!!! :smoke:
