Thought maybe with Christmas coming, it would be interesting to hear what CD you would nominate for CD of the year....a CD that was released this year. Might give some an idea for a gift to get or give. I think it's been a weak year, but there are some good ones. So...any "nominations?
I'll start; (#2 is honorable mention)
Electric Blues
1)Fever for the Bayou - Tab Benoit
2) Higher Power - Bernard Allison
Acoustic/Country blues
1) From the Dust - Rory Block
Slide guitar
1) Grant Street Live - Sonny Landreth
2) Souls Alike - Bonnie Raitt
Easy listening or acoustic
1) Prairie Wind - Neil Young
2) Magic Time - Van Morrison
Tribute CD
1) That's what I say;John Scofield Plays the Music of Ray Charles (also my jazz pick)
Rock
1) Get Blooze - Leslie West (ok, this is basically a blues album, mostly covers, but done as only Leslie can do it....think Marshall Stack and tons of distortion)..this is a fun CD
As for rock, a CD that came out late last year, Deja Voodoo, by Gov't Mule, is probably the best heavy rock CD i've heard in a long time....smart, sophisticated music, not over done. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
