After a long, exhausted search I have managed to find a drummer and a bass player that are in the same age bracket, have a job, and lack any delusions of playing Carnegie Hall! I have been looking to put another outfit together with one of my best friends, and former bandmate, for the longest time now. Play some Stones, CCR, etc. Most of the people I have tried to get things going with were either looking to play every night of the week, too young and stubborn, or a little of both. I wasn't asking for much, just looking to get a small outfit together to play out occassionaly and have fun jamming and recording in the studio. I'll be assembling the lineup in the next few weeks (Xmas is kinda in the way) and have a good vibe about it so far. My goal is to get out once or twice a month and play the bars in either NYC or Hoboken. If things pan out, this will be the first time in a formal band since the early 90s. The prospect has me both elated and intimidated at the same time. I let y'all know how this progresses over the coming weeks. If it does work out like I expect it to, I hope some of you could come out for a few drinks and catch a show

Man, the hardest part is getting guys together that have similiar music interests, similiar work hours, similiar expectations, simliar practice times. I put a group together a couple years ago, it took time!...we started with low expectations, just get together and jam. Then we had a pretty good setlist, so we took it out a few times. Then one thing would lead to another, one guy had this to do, one guy that...we didn't take it out anymore, but the jams were nice, relax, a few pops, take turns doing leads to blues jams, work on the setlist, but we all want it to be fun. We still do that every couple weeks when we can (right now our lead guitar and vocalist is in Ohio for his work for 4 weeks), the drummer recently had surgery.....so it sucks keeping things together. And we're all late 40's to early 50's, and we have some other guys who do sit in....I'd like to take it out again, but right now it's a nice release to just get together and jam like hell for 5 or 6 hours. Good luck on the band!

That is what my uncle's band is like. There is a guitarist (him) drummer, bassist, keyboardist, 3 vocalists, a trumpet and a saxophone (i think) but they are really good and play such a huge variety of stuff with the trumpet and sax. They actually started out just playing for drinks, and then people started paying them just so they wouldn't play somewhere else.

Its funny you posted this. I myself am in a bit of a bind at the moment deciding what to do. After months of trying to throw a band together I have finally found 2 bands that would both like me to play. 1 would be a small 3 piece with me on guitar and the bassist on vocals and a drummer the other is a full blues band with 2 other guitarists a bass player, hammond player, drummer, singer and on occasions horns too. Now I am not really sure what to do. The three piece offers its advantages in portability however I have heard the full blues band play and they smoke (they want me to take over lead duties too and I can never turn down a solo hehe :rlol: ) Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

Good luck with the band. It's nice to get a group of like-minded musicians together. Happened for me just recently and I'm really enjoying it. Keep us posted!
