I thought there was some interest in recording and jamming on the site. It seems the only one posting, besides myself, is Vintage Brat. I was really hoping there'd be more interest here, seeing as how many folks enjoy the blues and all. I don't need a showcase for my tunes, I have plenty of venues for them. I was hoping for more jams that were strickly blues...the other forums can get into other genres like speed metal and the such that I have no particular interest in.

Anyway, since I really don't see much activity here, I don't think I will continue to waste Dave's resources, which he could allocate to other avenues on the forum.

I'll let it ride til the end of the month then call it quits if participation remains the way it is.

I would really love to do it. I have the set up for it, and recently have been starting to work with Sonar 4 Producer Edition. But me being on a dial-up is just brutal for me. We don't have cable or DSL offered where I live, or at my work. One of the only things I hate about living off in the sticks! It pretty makes it impossible to share anything when you are running at the high, high speeds of 26.4!

I am into it also, but share the same problem as Bytor1975... no high speed connection... I would like to see discussions on recording techniques and tips and tricks people use... I'll start off by describing my home setup... I have a Tascam 424 porta studio. I use a Marshall MG 10, or a Martin 112-T for amplification... You don't need a lot of power for recording, smaller amp is usually better... I find I can usually get the sound I want without pushing 100 Watts. I am going to be looking into purchasing a couple of Shure sm57's to complement the Beyer Dynamics M260 I currently use...

Just a lil FYI ,

You really dont need high speed to upload tunes. I had 56k for a couple years and still uploaded and downloaded anything i wanted. It just took some time.
your upload speed doesnt affect the quality because its not streaming audio.
If your worried about spending time uploading use a file compressor to decrease file size.
If the file is too large then use one of the other free sites like soundclick , and simply link to the file there.

If your concerned about hard drive space . dl the track and listen and delete. Make a folder just for tunes you dl and delete it as you need the space.

It takes me about 30 minutes to download a 2 meg file. And during that time I can't do anything else. It is pretty bad. I WISH I could actually get anywhere near a 56K connection! I employ a download accelerator and it is still terribly slow. I can't stream, I can't do anything like Paltalk either. Terrible connections out where I live.

It boils down to me not being patient enough to sit and send or receive a cakewalk bundle that is 4-5-6 meg to or from another player.

Sucks to be me, eh?

lol gary says your on windup. not dial up there Jason.
let me do some searchin. there were ways i sped up my dial up without an accelerator. by changing some settings in windows.

This may be just what you dial up guys need, try dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC) (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm). This will further compress your mp3 down even more. Give it a shot, nothing to lose here...

Well, compressing Mp3's would be great... but what about cakewalk bundles for collabs?

Windup is about right! LOL! Gary is right. I have some accelerator that he gave me.. can't remember which is off of my head (I'm at work... working... wink wink.)

I have three PC's at the house, all with different modems and three OS's, all slow as hell on the internet. I boils down to living out in the woods, far from an telephone substations. Heck here at work its even worse than my house S-L-O-W! We time out all the time, especially on emails. I just wish my cable provider offered access, as getting DSL out here looks like it will never happen.

not everyone uses the same software...you decide who is gonna mix the collab, then you send ONLY your part in mp3...this keep file size down and makes it easier for the person doing the mixing/mastering to work with. You can add a bit of a lead in to help sync your part or the precise numeric location from within your DAW. Works very well.

It's nice to see interest finally taking off. This is actually one of the most entertaining apects of a guitar related forum. Lot's of possibilities here. :drinksmil

I'll give it a shot... Fastest speed I get at home is 26 K... brand new house, brand new wiring... no idea why its so slow... and DSL has yet to become available in my neighborhood...

Okay, on to another question... I have a new laptop I'd like to use to do some mixing with... so I'll need some type of software, like Cakewalk, I guess I'll also need some type of input device... Are PCMCIA cards available for input??? is there anyone here using a laptop, and what does the setup consist of??? Are you recording to an external device first say a 2488, or going right into the PC??? I'd love to play around with this....

I don't use a pcmcia card for laptop recording, I use an external firewire device. I posted links that should be helpful for you. You can also help yourself a bit by performing searches on Google. Perhaps someone on the forum uses pcmcia to record and can suggest something. :drinksmil
