I bought a cheap fender DG-11. It sound pretty good for the price although strats are so much easier to play. The neck and sides are made of nato. Is that some sort of tree or laminate.

Isn't NATO an acronym for North Atlantic Treaty Organization?
Sounds like a "Cold War"-era guitar to me! :Loco:

Nato is lumber grade South American Mahogany. It is typically used in necks and it retains some of the same properties of the more expensive Mahogany. It is usually it is found in lower priced guitars.

No problem Oldwannabe. If you ever get around to a bookstore or order off of the net, The Blue Book of Electric Guitars (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/188676834X/qid=1106082394/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-7552391-6149548?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)(and the Acoustic Book as well) has a great little section describing most of the types of woods used on guitars, as well as their main characteristics and little nuances. A great reference guide for any guitar player or collector.
Also Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0879304227/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-7552391-6149548?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance)is a must have! :guitar: (And a visit to George Gruhn's store is a MUST must have for any trip near Nashville!)
