View Full Version : Straplocking an Acoustic/Electric Guitar

Recently I had been trying to figure out a way to straplock my Taylor 314ce. I straplock ALL of my guitars religiously, but with my Taylor (and many other makes and models of acoustics) the input jack is also the strap knob. This eliminates the possibility of using a Dunlop or Schaller straplock.

I called Taylor's phone support for some insight, and they told me to drill another hole and add a typical Dunlop or Schaller straplock. That is also what some other people I had asked told me to do. I DID NOT want to drill on anything! Others also suggested just sticking a right-angled instrument plug in the jack with the cable cut off, or using paperclip as a lock. Well, I was wanting something to look a little better than that.

So I saw the Strap Keeper (http://www.jaquiegipson.com/TGC/StrapKeeper.htm) and it got me to thinking, and I came up with a variation of my own using the Dunlop Lokstraps, which I have here: http://www.geocities.com/bytor1975.geo/straplocks.html

Maybe this will help someone that has this issue with their Acoustic/Electric. :)

Great find Bytor!

I always mic my Acoustics, and rarely stand up to play them. So, its not a big issue for me (as a matter of fact I never even put the end pin in on all my Martins) But, I'm sure a lot of people run into this. The guys I know that have, had a Luthier install another end pin for them as was suggested by the guitar shop you went to.
