Anybody playing electric-acoustic guitars? What brands/models? What amps are you using? What music styles?

Anybody playing an Ovation Viper? Recently got an EA68 Viper and am growing to like it more every time I play it.

Hey Old Tele Man,

I like to grab my Acoustic/Electric from time to time. I keep two of them out on stands all the time, one in my music room and the other in my living room.

My Acoustic/Electrics are a Taylor 314ce and a Dean Exotica. I use an Epiphone Regent 220 acoustic amp to play with when I go play places. The Epi amp isn't too bad, for the price, but I don't use it all that often. Sometimes I go play at my wife's school she teaches at and I'll use it there. But usually at home I go 'unplugged' with them.

Thanks.

For "formal" gigs and jams, I play the Viper through my SF/SR; but at home, and for lessons with students, I play through the Spider.

Was wondering how important it is to use a specially-voiced "acoustic" amp, because I've found that to "really" get a decent "acoustic-jazz" sound from my ES-135LE through the SR, I need to use a Boss AC2 Acoustic Simulator to bring-out/enhance the "acoustic" sounds.

In between my "plugged in sessions" I like playing my U.S.A. Custom Wechter Pathmaker (Solid Spruce Top & Curly Maple Sides & Back) or rotate my acoustic/electric session using my Takamine 2004 LTD., Martin DM, Epiphone PR160.

When I'm traveling I use my Wechter 1620 Travel Guitar. This is an awesome looking little dynamo! Natural top ovankol sides & back For a travel guitar the sound is hard to beat. You can play it plugged or unplugged.

When I want to really relax and chllenge my skills I usually will go classical! I'll play one of woAaalhambra's I own either m Model 5P which is a student model or use the custom concert model the India Luthier.

Getting nto classical is challenging as well a relaxing! Many prominent rock and jazz artists have a some classical background or they were steeped into this mode of playing before becoming famous.

I'm glad to se many more acoustic players on the scene today. Acoustic playing is challeging whether it's steel string fingerstyle, nylon jazz or pure classical. It's really returning to the center of guitar playing.:music-smi

I'm a huge Acoustic lover, as a matter of fact it is basically all I've been playing lately (acoustic blues). I do have an Acoustic/Electric, but prefer playing straight acoustic.

I'm a die hard Martin fan, always have been, always will be. My stable of Martins changes pretty often, but at the moment I have the following:

Martin SPDC-16R (Acoustic/Electric Dread)
Martin 000X1 (My beater)
Martin 000-ECHF (due to arrive in Jan or Feb of next year)

Because of my style, I prefer the Auditorium or OM style Acoustics. I also prefer the vintage "V" neck feel.

Hey OTM. I think we've met elsewhere - maybe ... the nick LouisWu sound familiar?

Anyway, I use an Ovation Viper all the time. I work 4 night a week in a house band, and we do a couple of acoustic-guitar based tunes nearly every set.

I wanted a solid-body acoustic electric for the security from feedback, but the Atikins' and such were way too much money. I didn't know the Viper existed until I walked into the local Ovation dealer and found it hanging there. Reasonably priced, and I quite happy with it.

My amp is a Behringer Ultracoustic and I'm VERY pleased with it.

I've played several Behringer electric guitar amps (& 1 bass amp) that I thought were just AWFUL. The Ultracoustic, however, has been great. I'm quite happy with the sound, and it comes at a bargain price, too. Reliability? Four nights/week for over 2 years with zero problems.

I had a Martin DCX1E. It was a good AE. It had "True Martin Tone" and the Fishman electronics did an excellent job. A great deal at around $600 w/o a case.

I'm playing a Takamine EF261S with the cool tube preamp... I play it through an early 60's vintage C.F.Martin 112-T amp, and it sounds great... this amp was made long before acoustic/electric guitars were made, but the Tak still sounds sweet through it...

****************Warning*******************

If you ever see a Nova elec/acou in a shop.. Stop what you're doing.. and RUN!!!

...They suck. hehe

I used to have one of those. You can get them at Sears. Ended up trading it in to a guitar store for some better gear.

My dad has an Ovation Applause 12 string elec/acou and I like to play that from time to time. Also his more expensive ($1200) Ovation 6 string and it sounds like GOLD. Perfect for some nitty gritty acoustic blues.

My first guitar was an Epiphone PR-5E that my dad bought me. It's still my main guitar when I'm home!

Why? Are you planning on taking it apart and using the back as a Punch Bowl? :smilewide
