ok so here is the setup.
both guitars set the same, plugged in with the same lead, straight to the computer.

one take for both, can you guess the song?

- american has a maple neck and i just installed custom shop 54 pickups
- mexican has the delta tones and a rosewood neck
- american has d'addrio 10s, mexi has ernie ball 9's

the american is first, mexican second
the american seems louder from the start, it has really heavy gauge wire, i wonder if that has something to do with it...

anyway can u guys tell a diff?

Nice job Aaron.. ..song is Angel by Hendrix??, I thought both guitars sounded good, the Mex sounded a little cleaner, little sweeter. Great job either way!

Going to take a listen now...Wish you had made us guess! And see which we preferred. Would have been interesting! Mex vs. Amer!

hmm did u like the first little bit better or the second?
i think the cs54s which are the first bit are a little ummm fatter, the delta tones which are second seem to be a little more "bright"

the cs54s sound REALLY good in the amp, tomorrow when everyone is awake i am going to record something with the mic

OK here is something a little different than u have heard from me.
i have never tried to play this song before until tonite i looked it up on the net and goofed with it some.

the backing is the neck pickup
the lead type stuff is neck and bridge...

Sounds good Aaron. Almost like something that is from a Western....Ready for Clint to walk into the picture....A bit more work....and you got it!

Just curious..Why did you title the track "surfer?" Not a Dick Dale, Jan and Dean or Beach Boys sound, at all..................

I preferred the tone of Mexi myself. I liked both, just for the style you were playing I preferred the tone of the Mexi. Your playing has gotten very good, BTW...very articulate.

I am no expert...Perhaps it was the bass sequence....But really sounded like a backing track for a Rodriguez film....and I liked it! :smoke:

Edit: BTW...The wife and friends are singing karaoke in the living room. I'll need to give the tracks a listen again tomorrow. A bit noisy. She has tomorrow off. Wish I did!

sting thanks man!

i have been fiddling with the pickup heights etc...
i had a chance to plug the cs54s in earlier while everyone was awake and they come to life when plugged in, i like them because if you pick with your thumb/fingers they sound different than if you use a pick etc.

texmex on that second clip, i was also trying to get a different sound besides just the neck recorded.

ok back to the "woodshed"

Very nice both tracks!...I liked the Mex better, since i did find it more suitable for the track in question...perhaps you'll find in the future tracks that are more apropiate for each of your guitars...very nice sound too...i take it you have been busy, huh?

Contratulations!

Saludos.

I agree with Justpickin. They both sounded good, but the 2nd was a little cleaner.

The Delta Tones were nice, but I'm diggin' the CS54s. More balls, if you will (is it possible for a clean tone to have balls? YES).

The tune sounds like "Lenny" to me.

I believe you are right...Lenny....sounds similiar to intro to Angel...

:)
it is the amatuer version of lenny...
i learned it from the ineternet with some different chords than it seems stevie uses on el-mocambo so i am going to watch him and try to re-learn....

OK, the song sounds like Lenny by Stevie Ray. Stevie used very heavy gauge nickel strings. I believe they were .13, .16, .19, .26, .36 and .56. They heavier gauge strings sound a lot better if your fingers can handle it.
Good Job...keep practicing.

Two friends of mine put sets of Texas Specials into their mexican strats and they were so dissapointing! They played them thru a Vibro King amp too and they still sucked. They have way too much in the mid department. You have to remember that SRV never used Texas Specials his were original custom wound pickups and for mine I dont think the Texas Specials come anywhere near close enough.

Cat

P.S. I just had a thought. They seem to sound good in the SRV Custom Strat, I wonder why they dont sound that great in other Strats??? Hmmm...
Perhaps its the quality of the bodies, but then again Mexian Strats have pretty good sounding bodies and necks....:(
