Here is a pic of the modded blackface Princeton that I have on loan till tomorrow. With a Strat and Tele it sounds awesome, but when turned up to breaking point with buckers it gets flabby. Down low with buckers though it sounds awesome. If money were no object I'd happily have one of these :smoke:.

Yeah it does sound really nice, pretty much like fenders vid. I found myself sitting on the floor in front of it with my strat just 'plucking around' having fun not wanting to get up. Volume knob was on 2 I think, I then went to turn it up and nearly went deaf because vol jumped dramatically. I still believe honestly though that the Peavey Delta Blues would do the same job .i.e. big tone in a small amp. And of course we can't forget the countless other (cheaper) options available to us.

I'm not sure Lester as I have it on loan through a friend who knows the amp tech. I know it won't be cheap though being a early 60's unit, and apparently he has 2 of them both with different mods.
Basically you walk in, have a play of both and decide what mods you'd like then lay down US$2105 (AUS$3000) and walk away while it gets built. Like I said, sounds good but for the price I'd expect the amp to make me giddy like my marshall does. Actually $3000 would get me a *new* DSL+quad of greenbacks.

Seems like an awful lot of money for a very simple looking Amp. Fender has quite a few models that have some pretty wild features that don't approach that kind of dough. How many watts is it rated and what justifies that kind of price tag ?

I think they're rated at 11-15watts maybe? As for justifying the price if I ever come to a conclusion I'll gladly share.

Did a little research on the Princeton Amp to help answer a few of my own questions. It is rated at 15 watts, suitable for everyday use. It is a re-issue of a popular Fender all tube amp, here we get into the relic mind set paying more for something old, that's not always a bad thing if it has a classic sound that's hard to find in newer amps.

The MSRP is $ 1330.00 (US), GC lists it online at $ 1059.99 with free shipping. If it is going for about $ 2100.00 (US) in your area that's top dollar plus. I'm not real familiar with the all tube amps but understand they can have a great sound and that may be why they trend to be pricey.

Nah thats the price of a custom made version through a local amp builder here. This one that I've had is one of the examples that he gives potential customers to try (I suppose).
The Fender made ones could be had for probably around US $1110 which is roughly AUS $1600.
