Hi All,

I'm considering upgrading the pickups on my MIM Tele and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions regarding replacements?

Also, is it worth adding a 4 way switch at the same time?

Thx,

J.

I have a brand new 4-Way Tele switch sitting in my parts bin just waiting on a Telecaster. But I don't have a Tele at the moment. Every person I've ever known to have or have read about the 4 way upgrade just loves it.

As far as pickups... can't comment.

Can't speak for the tele pups, but I'm very happy with the Rio's in my strat.

I have a Rio Grande "Muy Grande" bridge pup and a GFS Dream 90 in the neck of my '00 MIM Tele. Wouldn't have it any other way. But I gotta say the best mod I did to mine was replacing the stock bridge with a Fender 52 Tele R.I. 3-saddle bridge. That's where I found the twang! :) And it's one of the cheapest ways {around $30} to improve your sound. :smoke:

I use Seymour Duncan Hot Tele Lead and Rhythm's in my Teles. Force of habit but I like 'em....lotsa guts....thick and hot but still kinda Tele-ish.

What's a 4 way switch do?

I've never tired the Rio Grandes myself but everyone seems to ravre about them. Once I finally get back into my Tele project, and *IF* I'm feeling extravegant thne I'll try a pair.

Or your tele would go to 11.:) Seriously, though (and I'm not usually serious) does it give you the option of connecting the pickups in series or parallel? I'm not sure myself.

Had a heavily modded Squier Tele ( by WnW) that was stolen  The 4 way switch was great and it had Bill Lawrence pups in it everybody who heard it were always asking me about it and commenting how great it sounded.

Yes it does allow for series/parallel.

I have 3 teles.. none with stock pickups. I have a Nashville MIM that I swapped the pickups for Texas Specials.. what a difference over the Tex-Mex pickups.. hotter and cleaner, truer tele tone.

I have another MIM that I have the Duncan Five-Twos in.. that I love.. that is what I consider to be my 'Buck Owens' tele.. want country twang, there it is..

The other one is my SwampCaster.. it has a Duncan double p-90 in the neck, a strat pickup in the middle and a hot rails in the bridge.. 5 way switch of course. The neck pickups are wired to go parallel, series or single coil (each independent) and a push pull switch to force the bridge pickup on so you can play it with the neck or the neck and middle.. All total.. 31 different sounds. This one will do almost anything.. from nice Jazz (series P-90) to rock, to surf, to country to blues.. to over the top.. btw.. I have a Japanese Squier neck on it from the mid 80's.. best neck I have on a tele.. plays like the old 50's models.

If I had to pick one... you would just have to take me out back and shoot me because I couldn't do it....
