Well...If you are talking about Britney Spears, Hillary Duff or Ashlee Simpson. The answer is "No!"

Who do you consider to be cool?

I like U2!

I'll admit, I really like some new bands like Coheed and Cambria, but I guess that is because I hear the Rush influences. I like Black Label Society's new album Mafia, but then again, is Zakk Wylde considered new? I doubt it.

I like much of the new stuff such as Alter Bridge, Disturbed, Audioslave, Silvertide, and Cold to name a few. I have been listening to a lot of blues stuff lately, Clapton, Bonamassa, the Albert's King and Cummings.

For a while, I was into Jet...I thought they could be the next Oasis.

Bytor: I like Lifeson's playing and all, but the singer (forgot his name) reminds me of three cats caught in a clothes dryer with the heat on max. And no Bounty sheets.

I love "The Spirit of Radio", and "Trees" is good too, but man, I'll never really get into Rush because of that guy.

Alter Bridge - actual good pseudo-shred
Disturbed - can't handle 'em for too long
Audioslave - they've got a new one that sounds ok, but they're tired
Silvertide - Ahh, the return of the classic rock solo!
Cold - Nah.
Blues stuff - Always!

Geddy Lee. Understood... that is usually most people's reason for disliking them. He can't really sing like that now in his older age though, but I kinda like the wailing like a screaming banshee on the old stuff myself. :)

IMHO..Geddy Lee is to Rush as Robert Plant is to Zep. Most recognizable for the singer. Plant ain't no opera singer either.

Wahoo!!!!http://fenderpick.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif Yes, Coheed and Cambria is a awesome.
My brother has got me hooked into the whole punk/emo/indie type scene as for new stuff. Stuff like the Get up kids, Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, The Early November, Thrice, Fallout Boy, Billy Talent, The Killers, Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, Motion City Soundtrack, Mae, Postal Service, Straylight Run, stuff like that. So yes, I have a side of new stuff, but I know my roots, so don't worry.

Hey Just, go to http://www.coheedandcambria.com/ and they have their new song 'Welcome Home' playing on the front page there, coming from their new album that comes out next month. I like them because I hear alot of prog-rock/metal influence, which you know I like. I know alot of people on here could care less about that kind of thing... but still... it holds me over 'till another Rush album! LOL!

They Singer is a huge mexican guy name Claudio Sanchez who basically only plays Gibson Explorers. And He does sing that high in real life.

Unfortunately They don't play any blues, but on the song "The Velorium Camper I: Faint of Hearts" there is a sweet Santana Sounding lick in the intro and a cowbellhttp://fenderpick.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

When I first saw big 'ol Claudio and heard that voice, my jaw about dropped! LOL! Oh.. that and his huge afro thing he had going. I guess it is so long now that it sort of falls down.

There is a write up and a picture in the new Guitar World near the beginning (Oct 2005.)

Their bassist uses a Geddy Lee Jazz bass, I might also add.

But no blues....

Never heard of Sigur Ros.

Check them out. Pretty nice stuff. The guitar player uses a violin bow a la Page...very nice use of it.

Don't know if these bands are cool but i catch them on the video channels once in awhile,i'd never buy one of their cds or dvds but they were interesting for their intensity and theatricality,Gwar and Slipknot,i did like Lincln Park too and Green Day mostly for the guitarists intensity of his rythm playing. One new band i've checked out and might even buy their cd is Mars Voltar,i'm not sure if the last part is right, but they have a very cool and interesting video with good music-it was kinda trippy(old timers will know what i mean by that) :hendrix:

Ahhh, another band that I recognize. I don't listen to the Mars Volta a lot, but I know what they sound like. The lead singer Cedric, and the main guitarist Olmar, were in a band called At The Drive In, before Mars Volta. And I have some crazy videos of Cedric acting crazy.

What I consider cool is like U2, Green Day, Blink - 182... you know that sort of stuff!

This thread is a bit old, but I'll bring it back from the graveyard....

I like U2. Most of the early songs (songs from the 80's) are very good. The 90's was a bad decade. Their latest album is a big improvement, but still not as good as "Boy" or "Jushua Tree".

I also like Red Hot Chili Peppers.

But like most (all?) of you guys, my favourites are Clapton, Led Zep, Gallagher and the rest of the 60's and 70's.

Hey X-Sample... I picked up Coheed and Cambria's new CD "Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness" today while on break from work. I got to listen to the first 4 or 5 songs, and it was pretty dang good. I noticed I was driving alot faster than I should have several times! LOL! Hopefully I'll have finished listening to it all by tomorrow.

I already got it (Buck Style, but i intend to buy the special edition). If you haven't seen the video for Welcome Home yet you should check it out on MTV.com, so far thats the only place i know it is "officially" posted.

If you listen to track 9, the Suffering, you'll notice it is nearly the same as that other song on In Keeping Secrets... album. There are a couple other songs that have repeated parts, but they do that, and change it up a bit. There is also a lot of good guitar on this album.

yep.. alot of repeated musical motiffs, including the main theme that is repeated in the other two previous albums. I already noticed a few different variations of guitar riffs as well.

Dream Theater does this alot as well...
