Went into GC yesterday to get my bi-monthly dosage of stress. Did my usual thing, 1st made my way to the acoustic room, through the second set of doors and sat down with some Taylors, Martins, and Gibsons. Ofcourse, as usual some kid store clerk who is assigned to the area comes in and asks me if I play guitar.....
..no, I'm shopping for a 9mm gloc. He then proceeds to grab guitars off the wall, grabs a stool, and tells me all about his favorites and starts hammering away on them, at which point I politely got up and walked away, told him I don't play guitar. I then browsed the electrics, and was quite dissatisfied with the selection of guitars, really nothing that made me want to grab the guitar and play it. Store was crowded also (green tag sale) which adds to the stress. But then I saw this pretty quilted maple top showmaster sitting there, really nice finish on it. Grabbed it, plugged it into the closest amp with a cable (one of the fender DSP's), and damn this guitar felt nice, played nice, looked better. Anyone playing one of these? WHat are your thoughts on them. I then proceded to grab an acoustic soft case (reason I went there) which was on sale, and I also had a 10% off via a phone call they made to my house and told my wife that if I mention the call I get an additional 10% off (really found it amazing that my wife even told me about the call), paid for it, went through security which is located 4 ft from where I paid for it, they opened the case, went through each pocket, studied the receipt, looked it over again, studied the receipt, did a strip search and finally allowed me to proceed thorugh the doors. The store is 15 mins from my house, and I drive to the smaller stores 30 or more mins from my house when I need something. They usually have some custom shop fenders and high end LP's to play with and such. You don't get that at GC....IMO. Today I will practice with the boys, and de-stress from the GC visit.

When I flew in from Phoenix back home to Birmingham this past Wednesday, the guy in front of me had a Guitar Center jacket on, a Marshall hat, his laptop and briefcase. When we landed I noticed a Guitar Center pick laying on the floor. I handed it to him as we walked out and I asked if he worked for G.C. as he snatched it from my hand. He didn't seem to be in the mood to talk, so I went about my business.
I sure hope he was visiting his Mama or something and not in town to scout locations or talk business. We don't need their kind here! ![]() |

That is a cool pic! Makes me feel old though. I graduated from college in '80. After an 8-year stint in the Navy.
